Why study the Master of Applied Economics at ITAM?

The programme is designed to shape economists specialized with robust and actualized theoretical and analytical tools that will allow them to participate in the creation and the diffusion of high-level scientific knowledge, as well as in the understanding and solution of the socioeconomic issues that affect the country.

The Master of Applied Economics has the double ambition to prepare its students both to purse a PhD in Applied Economics or Public Policy later on, or to retake their professional careers.

The graduates of this programme will reach work responsibilities that require the application of economic foundation towards the generation of knowledge; the elaboration and presentation of economic policy proposals; and the evaluation and design of social programs, mainly in the public or academic sector, or in international organizations.

 

Faculty

ITAM’s faculty is considered as one of the best in the country and in Latin America. It is backed by a faculty of full-time teachers and researchers, out of which 90% have taken on Master’s Degree studies and 70% count with PhD studies in some of the most renowned universities in the world.

 

Pedro Aspe Award

Since the Class of 2010, the “Pedro Aspe Award in Academic Excellency of the Master of Applied Economics” is given out annually. It recognizes the effort, dedication and performance of the top two students of the class. With this award, the first place receives $11,000 USD, and the second place receives $6,000 USD.

 

Student Exchange

Currently, the Master of Applied Economics maintains ties with some universities abroad that count with graduate degree programmes, which makes the student and teacher exchange possible, and represents a benefit for the programme students.

 

Research Centers

The Department of Economics at ITAM counts with research centers that are made up of head investigators, associates, assistants and guest researchers, as well as technical and administrative support personnel. The finality of these centers is the search for innovative methods and knowledge throughout research projects, whose results are divulged in congresses, seminars and periodic national and international publications. Professional and Academic Network

The long trajectory of ITAM, of the Academic Department of Economics, of its respective academic programmes, and of its former alumni, has left a trail in the Mexican job market (both in the public and private sector), in international organizations, and in the national and international academia; in such a way that being an ITAM graduate is the ticket to form part of a select group of professionists and academics which desire to collaborate with peers that have an excellent training.
